IWC - Clean Rivers Team 2008

New in 2008! Iowa Whitewater Coalition, as a particpant in the Iowa DNR Streamkeepers Program, has adopted Commerce Ledges. IWC has committed to doing annual cleanups in the area just upstream from Walnut Woods State Park in West Des Moines and will help maintain the trails around the swiftwater learning site created by the DNR in 2007. Other outdoor enthusiasts such as bird watchers and anglers are encouraged to visit and enjoy the location and to help maintain the site's environmental integrity.

Don Propst continues to lead the Clean Rivers Team program for 2008. People are already excited and ready to get involved. Confirmed and tentative river cleanup dates appear in the schedule to the right of this page. This year the cleanup focus will be on sections of the Raccoon watershed that were inaccessible during high water last year.

Important note: The Clean Rivers Team receives support from local USDA RC&D Earth Team programs. This important support imposes two restrictions on particpation. No children under age 14 are permitted to particpate, and all particpants aged 14-17 must have written parental consent.
